The idea of raising money and toys for the home was established in this meeting.
Mrs Phoebe Asiyo, the kenyan goodwill ambasaadaor to United Nationdevelopment Fund for women was speaking at a conference on opinion better life for young women’ in Nairobi hotel.
She stated that African Child bearing women face challenges like, nutrition anaemia, illiteracy, poverty and excess physical labour yet they are primary producers of food consumed at home.
She urged women in positions of lesdership like herself to fight for a better world for young women in their countries. She used this chance to advocate for a dignified life for women.
Vice chair of Children Welfare Society of Kenya, Mrs. Phoebe Asiyo, hosted a party to receive Dr. Sokata Ogeta, who was then the executive chairperson of UNICEF.
She assured Dr. Sokata that she was doing everything in her position to fight for the better conditions for children.
A motion on the banning of a birth control drug, Depo-Provera was being discussed in the parliament. Mrs. phoebe asiyo, who was the MP for karachuonyo made a significant contribution that contributed to this motion being passed.
Opposing Mr. Njonjo who was supporting the motion, she stated that the drug was it was dangerous and unsafe for women, it contained penicillin and it could be passed to children if used by breastfeeding women.
Member of parliament, Phoebe asiyo fought the rights of women and children by suggesting the withdrawal of license of ‘sugar daddies’ that allowed them to have sire children out of wedlock and not cater for them.
She felt that in such cases men should offer a helping hand in raising the children. although this issue was received negatively, with most male MPs in the house defending their behavior, her whole point was to advocate for the protection of girls and young women who fell victim of ‘sugar daddies’
Mrs. asiyo urged leaders to campaign against the dumping of drugs in the country by developed countries. She also requested scientists to carry out research and determine whether drugs and chemicals brought in the country are safe to use.
