Planting trees is like planting hope. Activities like deforestation and land degradation have left a lot of land without trees. Such activities cause climate change with adverse effects. We have seen effects like rising temperatures, high levels of heat, drought, lack of rainfall and other adverse weather conditions. Trees are very important in the ecosystem. They play roles like absorbing carbon dioxide, reducing greenhouse gases, regulating rainfall, improving soil fertility, and preventing erosion. In addition to that, indigenous trees provide food, medicine, and livelihoods.
The Kenyan government launched a plan to plant 15 billion trees by 2032, aiming to increase tree cover to 30%. This would not only balance the ecosystem but also fight desertification, restore watersheds, and improve biodiversity. To honor policies like these and others related to increasing tree coverage, we will engage in tree planting campaigns that will involve schools, communities and other willing participants. Under this initiative, we also encourage those living near forests to plant and preserve. We will have an adopt a tree initiative where participants plants and cares for a tree.
